Playing with Tales

One of the highlights of my year is the Northlands Storytelling Confabulation. This conference always leaves me with a greater sense of the magic in the world, and manages to both help me search my own life for good stories and make me want to delve deep into traditional tales.

I've been playing with some lines and simple illustrations from traditional tales. I'm interested in figuring out the least you can do in terms of image to evoke a story. How few words can you use? How few shapes?I've never done anything with lettering. It's fun to play with the shapes, and figure out how to join them all together.

This isn't the greatest picture of this as-yet-unglued draft of this piece, but I promised myself I'd post what I made today, and sunlight doesn't last that long in February. Learning how to photograph my putterings is a whole new skill.
